This week for Friday’s 52-theme, we are exploring body-scapes/body parts. This photo of Jack’s sweet feet was done all on his own. As is the case with most toddlers, this guy loves to ‘hide’ on his mama. He gets such a kick out of thinking he is really fooling me. So when I saw these toes sticking out from the couch cushion, I ran to get my camera as fast as possible.

This week, my photographer friends and I photographed an image representative of delicate. I love how the word delicate feels exactly that way…delicate when I say it. I immediately knew I wanted to photograph a flower for this word. I found this gorgeous creamy rose and loved photographing its folds with my macro lens.

It’s Friday and this week our photography prompt is monochromatic. I had lots of ideas for this theme, but time got the best of me and it was quite a busy week. So, I must admit that this photo was pulled from my archives. It is a cupcake from one of my favorite local bakeries. I just love that little daisy on top; daisies make me happy and paired with a cupcake…that is perfection!

For our weekly photography challenge, we were to photograph something using a shallow depth of field. I found this explanation online and couldn’t think of a better way to describe it, so I am quoting here:
‘Depth of Field or DOF for short is a description of how much of your photograph is in focus. A shallow depth of field simply means that one specific area of your photo is tack sharp while other elements remain blurred.’
I decided to take my boys out for a mini photoshoot…shooting wide open. I did have all three of the boys with me, but the youngest was a bit distracted by the playground that was close to the field we were shooting at. Hence, I photographed two out of the three. My oldest will be turning 9 in just a few weeks and when I looked at these images, I couldn’t help but notice how much he is growing up. Our last year of single digits!

The theme for this week’s 52 on Friday is summertime. Oh, how quickly summer passes; if only winter were the same! I guess that is why we look forward to summer so much…the beautiful blue skies, the flowers in bloom, swimming, eating popsicles, staying up late, etc. I photographed my niece a few weeks ago at a family party. To me this image is quintessentially summer–kids playing outdoors late into the night, tank tops, bubble gum, and sisters twirling behind you with a hula hoop. Life is good…ahhh, summer we love you so!

It’s Friday and that means that I photographed my interpretation of nature along with 17 fellow photographers. One of the things I love best about summer is how the golden light just before dusk can make even a small field of wildflowers look like amazing. I set out to photograph some patches of wild purplish-pink flowers and was lucky enough to capture nature in action as a bumble bee visited the flower I was focusing on. Lucky me!

‘Santa’ found this vintage toy cowboy gun at an estate sale and knew that Luke would just love it. Even though games like cops and robbers may be obsolete for most children, we do not have video games, so some old school games are still alive and kicking here in our home. Please know that Santa was not promoting violence in any way, but just knew a treasure for a little boy when he saw it.
One of the things I like best about vintage toys is to think of the children that played with them before…who were they?

This week, our group of photographers was challenged to photograph and interpret the theme, on the shelf. I intended to photograph some of my vintage finds from estate sales that grace the shelves in my living room or my vintage camera collection, but I ended up visiting Jackson’s room and snapped a photo of a small shelf in his room. I made him the framed ABC poster last week after seeing a similar one on etsy. It won’t be long before this room needs to be converted into a big boy room and it will no longer be the nursery, so I will savor this image (and many others) and all the beautiful memories I have of my babies sleeping in this nursery.

It’s Friday and that means it’s time to share how I and the other photographers participating in this year-long photographic journey interpreted independence. I just love the Fourth of July; it is so special to see how our nation comes together to celebrate its birthday and the beautiful gift of freedom we have here in the USA. I was inspired by how the fabulous Nicole Hill Gerulat (A Little Sussy) photographed a Fourth of July party for Real Simple. I knew I wanted to try something similar with my sweet guy Luke.
