Once upon a time, there was a little boy who really wanted a pet fish. One day he was lucky enough to win two fish at a carnival.  The boy was so happy and spent lots of time looking at his fish, talking to them and feeding them. The boy learned that sometimes wishes do come true.

This month our circle of photographers focused on telling a story through photos. For more inspiration, begin my visiting my friend and the very talented, Christine Blaylock,  Northwest Suburban Chicago Child Photographer. I love her take on this theme.

This beautiful boy turned 6 months old and could not be any sweeter! Even though he was tired for our shoot, he still managed to give me the most exuberant smiles.  And big brother was a great assistant, making his brother giggle throughout our time together.

As a mom to boys, I pretty much know what to expect from them, but this photo shoot was a bit different, because the boys were twins.  And were they fun! I loved watching them interact with one another and make each other laugh.  Though they deny being best friends, these images show there is no doubt that these guys are best buds and always will be.

I photographed this sweet boy first in his momma’s tummy and a few times since, so it is amazing to me that he is now one! His mom and dad celebrated with family and friends at a spectacular party at home complete with Lloyd’s Taco Truck, music, bubbles, joy and laughter. The love for this sweet boy and the joy of his family was so evident. Happy Birthday, Grey! xoxo

This go-around, our photography group challenged ourselves to do an editorial photo shoot. An editorial shoot is what you see in magazines for fashion, features, etc. I have always loved photographing my children with my collection of vintage cameras. Come to think of it, I probably have enough photos with this theme to make an entire book.  {Might just have to do that!} So I bribed my youngest to get dressed up for this shoot and paired him with some favorite cameras. We both had lots of fun and I know these photos are going to be cherished favorites. To continue through our circle of photographers, you can begin by visiting my very talented friend, Laura Veno | Texas Children’s Photographer.

There is an old English proverb that states, ‘the eyes are the window to the soul’ and this has always been a favorite quote of mine. As a photographer, I am always looking at people’s eyes and if you really take the time to look, you can tell so much about a person from their eyes. I am thrilled to once again spend 2014 with an amazing group of women and fellow photographers as we challenge ourselves to try a new portrait theme each month. As noted in this blog post’s title, our theme for February is soulful portraits. I am so thankful for this project because it inspires me to take photos of my children that might otherwise pass me by. I will definitely cherish these soulful images of them.

To continue to be inspired by soulful portraits, you can continue through our circle by visiting the very talented, Cassandra O’Leary.

Aren’t these two boys just the cutest things ever?

I know they are going to be great friends with lots of adventures in their future–and they have their sweet little doggie to join them!

And just like that, this sweet boy turns one. Happy Birthday, Trent! We had so much fun playing in the leaves and making this little birthday boy smile. Hope all your birthday wishes come true!

I feel so blessed when I have the opportunity to photograph families multiple times and capture the essence of who they are at an exact moment in time. Our lives are ever moving and capturing the big and not-so-big moments with my camera is something I am very passionate about. I first met this family when the little boy above was just a few weeks old and now he is three years old and about to become a big brother. And, he is going to be a fabulous one at that! Kristie & Joe, thanks so much for inviting me to be a part of this beautiful time in your lives. I cannot wait to meet your little one!

I always say that I have the best job in the world–to be able to meet beautiful families and welcome their newest additions–doesn’t get better than that! Only this time, I was doubly blessed as I visited Sawyer at the hospital when he was 2 days old and then a week later we had a full newborn session at his home. He is calm, peaceful, and just utterly perfect. He is baby boy no. 4 for this family and is already loved and adored by those big brothers!

Laura & Chris, congratulations! You have a beautiful family and I am so thankful that I was able to capture this special time in your lives.
